Today is the 4th of July. In America family and friends are gathering to celebrate the freedoms that our forefathers fought for. They are bar-b-queing and watching sports. Tonight they will be watching the fireworks, and some will be setting off their own. But for the rest of the world today is like any other. There aren't any special events, no fireworks, no flags. Everyone is going about their day as if it isn't a holiday... because it isn't to them.
So what does an American do when they are in a country that doesn't have the 4th of July? You make your own celebration. Today I went to my supervisors house. There was Keith and Carrie with their two kids, Beth and Clay with their two boys, Andy, Trent, and me. We grilled hotdogs and burgers. We had baked beans, mac and cheese, and chips. And we had deserts. After we played a game of Risk and then watched a movie. There weren't any fireworks, no patriotic songs, no sporting events. But all in all it was a really good day.
For the rest of Bahrain it was a nomal Friday, but for us it was a party.
